Seeking Contentment in Counter-Culture (by Siera Huff)

Have you ever felt God working through you, shaping you in areas that need some aid? For me, it can feel uncomfortable in the process, but I always come out on the other end changed in a positive way. God has  been working on me in a few keys areas lately, and I thought I would share a bit with you. As you may or may not know, I am a stay-at-home mother to my 11 month old son. Ever since I was a small girl, I have dreamed of being a wife and mom, and I feel blessed by these roles. I recently had some feelings of boredom and discontentment, though, feeling as though my current place in life is “not enough” and is lacking fulfillment. Feelings of unrest set in after long days of feeding, changing diapers, and chasing around a busy crawler. Today’s culture almost praises a busy, hustle-bustle lifestyle, fueling my negative feelings and thoughts about my season.

Through this time, I spent much time in prayer asking God to help me to find peace and contentment in my current season of life. God is teaching me to slow down, to count my blessings, and to thank Him as I go along. It could be stopping to really examine and appreciate a beautiful cactus flower during my walk, or saying “thank You, God,” for a sink of dishes, reminding me that I have a family, and food to eat.

And, what do you know, I am finding true contentment in this little life lesson, resting in the peace of my Father and appreciating His beauty along the journey.
